Montgomery, Ala. – AIDT is proud to announce the promotion of Nona Johnson to Assistant Director for Special Programs, effective October 1, 2025.
Johnson has been a key member of AIDT for over 25 years, bringing strong leadership, creativity, and a deep passion for helping people succeed. Her work has played a major role in AIDT’s mission to strengthen Alabama’s workforce and support communities across the state.
In her new role, Johnson will lead the development and coordination of special programs that expand access to training and remove barriers for job seekers. She has a proven ability to identify community needs and turn ideas into programs that deliver real, lasting results.
One of Johnson notable initiatives is AIDT RIDE, a program that improves transportation access for individuals attending AIDT training. Transportation challenges often limit participation in workforce programs, and this initiative has already helped more Alabamians gain the skills they need to advance their careers. Johnson’s leadership and persistence were key in bringing this program to life.
“Nona’s leadership and creativity have helped AIDT reach people and communities we might not have reached otherwise,” said Ed Castile, Deputy Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce and Executive Director of AIDT. “Her commitment to service and innovation continues to move AIDT forward and strengthen Alabama’s workforce in meaningful ways.”
As Assistant Director for Special Programs, Johnson will continue to guide initiatives that keep AIDT at the forefront of workforce development. She will work with teams and partners statewide to design programs that respond to Alabama’s changing workforce needs.
AIDT congratulates Nona on this well-deserved promotion.
