SYNOPSIS
A highly responsible position establishing and directing all IT operations for the Department of Commerce. Manages, supervises, and exercises independent judgment in carrying out IT objectives and responsible for executing the manner as it is achieved. This position will supervise a staff up-to (3) employees.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves as IT Division Manager and the Department’s spokesperson. Manages, advises, and coordinates all IT operations in collaboration with the Secretary of Commerce and the executive leadership team to implement strategic direction for the Department. Monitors and evaluates progress. Provides leadership and assistance as necessary to effectively facilitate the Department’s mission.
- Manages IT staff so that the work and outcomes are monitored, and individual productivity goals are met with no valid delay in projects and assignments. Ensures employee performance problems are handled properly and all governed policies and procedures are followed correctly.
- Oversees the monitoring of voice and data systems, network systems, and performance to recommend improvements, increase efficiency, and avoid network problems and downtime.
- Oversees and supervises the design, configuration, and implementation of network hardware, software, ancillary services, and network communication gateways to other computing settings.
- Manages and directs the financial activities of Commerce’s IT resources, initiatives, and investments. Implements effective budgeting and cost-savings. Approves or disapproves the organization’s IT-related expenditures.
- Oversees and supervises the design, implementation, and evaluation of Commerce cybersecurity defense measures, programs, and initiatives that ensure the security of the organization’s digital assets and operating capability.
- Develops and oversees the design, implementation, and evaluation of Commerce’s IT training programs and initiatives that promote positive employee engagement and enhanced organizational performance.
- Provides leadership and IT strategic management to Commerce divisions so that each division’s IT-related activities effectively contribute to achieving the Department’s strategic business objectives.
- Stays abreast of current technology trends by attending classes and attaining certifications in specific technical areas, etc.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
Salary and General:
Initial placement will be based on experience and education within a range of $93,343 – $133,917.00. Paid monthly. Excellent benefits package included.
Criminal Background Check:
The applicant chosen for employment will be required to sign a Criminal Background Check consent form and to submit a nonrefundable $25.61 payment for the cost of the criminal background check. (Note: $25.61 fee is based on possession of an Alabama Driver’s License. The fee for the background check may be more or less if the driver’s license is not an Alabama license.) Permanent employment will be contingent upon the results of the criminal background check.
