January 26th & 27th, AIDT participated in the second annual East Alabama Workforce Investment Network (EAWIN- Region 8 Workforce Council) Career Discovery event which exposes 8th and 9th graders and to potential career choices.
Career Discovery is an initiative that brings together regional business and industry, non-profits and volunteers throughout the region to present an interactive, hands-on career exploration event for our public, private and home-schooled eighth grade students.
Eighth grade students are the main target for the event. They are given the opportunity to gain more awareness and understanding of the career and college choices available to them which helps prepare them to make course selection choices as they enter the ninth grade.
Eleven different industries were showcased in exhibits including: Agriculture, Architecture and Construction, Communication and Information Technology, Education and Training, Hospitality and Tourism, Manufacturing, Automotive Manufacturing, Healthcare, Public Service, Transportation, Distribution and Logistics, Energy and Utilities.
The AIDT Communications staff hosted a booth where students could learn about various careers in communications. They also got a chance to experience what it would be like in a newsroom. They were allowed to read from a teleprompter and perform in front of a green screen. Nearly 4000 students from the region participated in this event.
