Without
basic workplace skills, many people have a hard time getting a job.
AIDT's Skills@Work class teaches workplace topics including team skills
and diversity, communication, how to have a good job interview, as well
as introductions to computer topics like using Windows, email, word
processing and spreadsheets.
Skills@Work starts Tuesday, Nov. 6,
and continues three hours per night, each Tuesday and Thursday, until
Dec. 18, 2007, at the AIDT Montgomery Training Center, 15 Technology
Court. Class will not be held on Thursday, Nov. 22. Skills@Work is
open at no cost for job seekers ranging from high school age through

This
week you'll learn how Alabama's major aerospace manufacturers work to
increase their workforce.You will also learn the first steps
needed for aerospace careers that are provided at Enterprise-Ozark
Community College, and the HUNCH program in Huntsville, home of
NASA’s
youngest aerospace workers already pursuing their dream.

site each week after they are broadcast.
“On The
Job” provides on-site details about employers and career-related
educational opportunities throughout Alabama schools, colleges and
education centers. Viewers will see on-site activities in Alabama
career education and training services, and watch actual on-the-job
production and performance in a variety of careers. Each show will also
feature Alabama’s Ready To Work training that helps people
prepare for the job market.
Our next show, Nov. 11, will feature:
- Surgical technology at Southern Union State Community College
- Nursing training at Northwest-Shoals Community College
- Cosmetology certification at Snead State Community College
Learn to connect education and workforce development"Education
and Workforce Development: Making the Connection" is a new course
offered by the Economic & Community Development Institute (ECDI) at
Auburn University. On November 14-15, 2007, ECDI will bring a team of
practitioner-experts to Auburn to present ideas and proven success
strategies for bridging the gap between education and workforce
development. Throughout the course, participants will be
encouraged to ask questions and engage in constructive dialogue about
challenges and opportunities for developing Alabama’s current and
future workforce.

Maritime training available in Mobile AIDT
is seeking applicants for a free 10-week welding training program
featuring flux-core, aluminum MIG, shipfitting, oxy fuel cutting,
plasma cutting and carbon arc gouging. Classes are conducted during day
and evening hours. Download your Maritime Welding and Shipfitting application online from www.aidt.edu/apply. Mail the completed application to your local Career Center.
Mobile
area high school students may enroll in the next High School Maritime
Apprenticeship class, also conducted by AIDT, available in January.
Apprenticeship applications
are available from high school counselors. Apprentice
students receive $8 hourly wages while in training. Successful
completors at least 18 years old get full-time maritime jobs. Career opportunities available through AIDTAIDT
is currently assisting 22 employers to fill more than 2,800 jobs in Calhoun, Clarke, Colbert, Covington, Geneva, Houston,
Jefferson, Lee, Macon, Madison, Mobile, St. Clair, Tallapoosa and
Washington counties.
