ThyssenKrupp discusses merging stainless business with Finnish firm

A ThyssenKrupp AG spokesman said the company is discussing merging its stainless steel business with Finnish stainless steel maker Outokumpu. ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA employs 550 people at a facility in north Mobile County. It shares the facility with ThyssenKrupp Steel USA, a carbon steel maker that employs 1,600 people.

ThyssenKrupp did not offer any details about what a merger with Outokumpu would mean for the operation or workers in Alabama. Company spokesman Alexander Wilke said in a statement that ThyssenKrupp is still keeping an open mind whether to sell its stainless segment, spin it off into a separate company for shareholders, or have a public stock offering. …http://blog.al.com/press-register-business/2012/01/thyssenkrupp_discusses_merging.html
