AIDT launched maritime training in Mobile in 2007 to provide job seekers with qualifications and skills needed to join the growing maritime industry. Atlantic Marine, Austal USA, Bender Shipbuilding and C & G Boatworks are working with AIDT to expand the maritime training to help fill their jobs.
Intensive welding and ship fitting training is available at the Maritime Welding Center in Mobile and the Brookley Complex. AIDT is also providing maritime welding training for the citizens of south Mobile county at the Bryant Career Technical Center in Irvington. (Classes in Irvington are day classes only.) The 10-week day classes and the 12-week night classes teach aluminum and steel welding techniques and ship fitting as well as other shipbuilding skills based on employer’s production processes. Trainees also demonstrate work ethics and experience in related skills while training, which assists employer hiring decisions. Training is available at no cost.
The Maritime Welding program is ongoing with classes scheduled through the end of 2010. Applications are accepted Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. at the Brookley Complex, 1890 Third Street, Mobile, AL. Classes will be filled 4 weeks before the class start date, so apply early.
